Kaisa, I love you!! Grateful for being your mother!
Picking up my 15-year old daughter from football, still wearing football outfit and shoes, seeing her hang out the window of the car taking this photo on our way to a talk with her teachers at school. Listening to her, on our way evaluating her first months of this school year, and all by herself setting new goals for the coming half year. Meeting very satisfied teachers, and then dropping her off again, at the very same place I picked her up, her favorite spot in the world; the football field right here to the left of this picture.

Grateful for a day of absolute joy - from the moment I woke till I feel asleep late at night.
First a few hours of work for one of my favorite clients at the moment. Then going to visit a former client for lunch, and realizing once again how extremely focused, persistent, and succesful they are. Almost 4 years ago they initiated a large business transformation. Today entering the organisation it's extremely visible that the project is still very much alive, and they've reached their goals from back them! Their turnover has increased significantly since then, lots of new clients, and the number of employees have been increased with more than 15% excl. an equal number of external consultants. I was fortunate enough to work with them for almost a year, but I honestly cannot say that I can take any credit for their succes!! They've got an amazing CEO with very high change management capabilities, and a very dedicated team around him. I'm not surprised at all, what they've achieved, but I'm truly happy on their behalf!!! I was looking very much forward to seeing them again, and I left, singing even louder in my car, than I did when arriving two hours earlier at their parking lot! Finally heading for a meeting with a really wonderful "colleague" in one of the two businesses where I'm currently being an associate. Being an independent consultant, working on my own, is one of the best choices I've made career wise. However being able to - at the same time - have really knowledgeable and inspiring "colleagues", whom I can meet for a warm chat and a really, delicious, sinful cakes, and a walk in the heart of Copenhagen.... This combination is exactly what I aspired for two years ago. Back then, I had no idea if I would be able to find it. I had deliberately left a really good job, in order to try to see if I could find exactly this. And even though I know very well that life - as well as your work-life - can change in a heartbeat, I've decided to never miss a change of appreciating every moment of joy there is, and meeting it with gratetude. And today joy was my companion, non stop from dawn to dusk. I'm not fanatic. And I eat foods that I know I shouldn't, even though my mind is trying to tell me not to.
However I was brought up quite healthy, and I actually think my mother, more or less consciously, pre-coded my tastebuds to always be craving for stuff like this. I love the colors, the smells, the tastes, the feeling between my teeth - especially when these guys are raw or close to raw - and I love the feeling in my stomach. Back then - at least as a young kid, I envied my classmates their white bread, their colored soft drinks and their red salami. When I grew older, and especially today, I'm truly grateful for my mother's persistence. I'm trying to do the same with my kids, and I know for sure, that my youngest doesn't appreciate my effort. Maybe some day he will... Until then, I'll enjoy the looks, the smells, the tastes and the recurring cravings. Welcome to my kitchen you handsome green guys! "You’ve got to find what you love.
And that is as true for your work as it is for your lovers. Your work is gonna fill a large part of your life and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work and the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet. Keep looking and don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it. And as in every relationship it just gets better and better as the years roll on. So keep looking - don’t settle" Steve Jobs, delivering his commencement speech to the graduates of Stanford University, 2005 I'm without doubt doing what I love and loving what I do. Feeling extremely grateful for every client I've had the last two years as an independent consultant. Grabbing breakfast at a small bakery-café.
Being a coffee lover, this view within the very first hours of the day, calls for gratitude immediately. Another teenage party back home - another chance for an adult night out.
Passing the Danish parliament by foot on our way from the hotel apartment to the restaurant. Love CPH by night! My birthday today. Have had an absolutely wonderful day. Feeling really really good AND truly grateful for life and for being alive! I Gratitude is as simple - and as magnificent - as that for me today. |
